Grow one of North America's most versatile native shrubs.
Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a hardy native shrub known for its beautiful white spring flowers, glossy green foliage, brilliant red fall color, and clusters of dark purple-black berries. The berries are rich in antioxidants and are commonly used to make jams, jellies, syrups, juices, wines, and baked goods.
This adaptable shrub is excellent for wildlife habitat, pollinator gardens, rain gardens, native landscaping, food forests, and edible hedgerows. Birds readily consume the fruit during fall and winter while the dense branching provides excellent cover for wildlife.
