Black Gum, also known as Tupelo or Black Tupelo, is a long-lived native hardwood valued for its exceptional wildlife value, brilliant fall color, and adaptability across eastern forests. This species is widely respected by foresters, beekeepers, and native plant growers for its ecological importance. In spring, small greenish-white flowers provide nectar for pollinators, particularly bees. Tupelo honey produced from these blooms is highly prized. Later in the season, the tree produces dark blue fruits that are eaten by birds, deer, and other wildlife.
